The Top 5 Most Expensive Guitars Of All Time (Images)

#1 – The “Reach Out To Asia” Fender Stratocaster

The “Reach Out To Asia” Fender Stratocaster

This brings us to our number one most expensive guitar of all time, the “Reach Out To Asia” Fender Stratocaster.

While the other guitars on this list were so expensive in large part because of who they belonged to and the music that was created on them, this Fender Strat was so expensive because of the ridiculous list of names that signed their signatures on it and the cause that it was for.

The Reach Out To Asia Foundation is a non-profit based in Qatar that largely focuses on providing accessible education for children in need. Their aim is to help the countries of the region that are impoverished, war-torn or recovering from natural disasters as was the case after the catastrophic tsunami that claimed the lives of approximately 230,000 people in 14 different countries in 2004.

As a way to raise money, a who’s-who list of musicians signed a white Fender Stratocaster so that the guitar could be sold at auction to help the victims of the tsunami.

The list of signatures include:

  • Mick Jagger
  • Keith Richards
  • Eric Clapton
  • Brian May
  • Jimmy Page
  • David Gilmour
  • Jeff Beck
  • Pete Townshend
  • Mark Knopfler
  • Ray Davis
  • Liam Gallagher
  • Ronnie Wood
  • Tony Iommi
  • Angus and Malcolm Young
  • Paul McCartney
  • Sting
  • Ritchie Blackmore
  • Def Leppard
  • Bryan Adams

The Fender Stratocaster was sold at an auction hosted by Reach Out To Asia in 2005 for a staggering sum of $2.7 million.

While it may be lacking in the musical heritage that some of the other guitars on this list bolster, all of the signatures it features are incredible, and the admirable cause that it was signed and auctioned for make the Reach Out To Asia Fender Stratocaster a legendary guitar all-the-same.
